I filmed, directed and edited a personal documentary telling the story of my dad’s rescue from the jungle in Penang, Malaysia, following a long and challenging rescue that finally concluded after midnight. As he had never been filmed or interviewed before, I took particular care with the setup and direction to make him feel comfortable and create a natural environment for him to tell his story. Filmed on an iPhone, I combined the interview with drone footage my dad had captured himself before the day of the rescue, using the edit to build a personal, story-driven account of what happened.
